Why Move to Altrincham?
Historically part of Cheshire, Altrincham was established as a market town in 1290. The town began to expand rapidly with the arrival of the Bridgewater Canal extension, followed by the arrival of the railway in 1849.
Today Altrincham is part of the county of Greater Manchester. It has a population of around 53,000 and has become a popular and affluent commuter town with some great transport links at its disposal.
The town lies just eight miles south west of Manchester, 15 miles from Macclesfield and 10 miles east of Warrington.
Travelling further afield? The M6 is only 20 minutes allowing connections to Birmingham and London to the South, Lancaster and the Lakes to the North.
This peaceful leafy town has various green spaces nearby such as the award-winning Samford Park, the National Trust’s Dunham Massey Park and Tatton Park, all great for walks and other weekend activities.
Altrincham has plenty of active community groups and organisations such as Altrincham & Bowdon Civic Society, Town Centre Partnership, and Altrincham Forward, ideal for those new to the area where you can get involved with all sorts of interesting activities whilst making friends.
The town status is currently undergoing ambitious regeneration plans placing the market at its heart again whilst re-defining Altrincham as ‘THE’ Modern Market Town.
Improvements have included a partly pedestrianised centre with attractive new paving which has allowed cafes and restaurants to cater for al fresco dining. This is just one of the projects which has now been completed with many more on the way.
As improvements continue across the region, small start-up businesses are seeing the towns potential and as quickly as new office and retail units are created, they are being eagerly snapped up.
The towns economy is on the up, and this trend looks like it is set to continue for the foreseeable future.
Altrincham Schools & Education
There are several quality schools available in the town that have been described as “astonishingly good” by the Guardian.
