The city has an ‘ancient meets cosmopolitan vibe with heritage sites and nightclubs resting side by side. You can eat out in hundreds of restaurants and cafés serving everything from Michelin-starred gourmet dishes to simple, satisfying street food.
There is a diverse range of shops in Bath selling everything from the latest fashion trends within the new Southgate development, to antiques and fine foods. The city’s main shopping boulevard, Milsom Street, was also voted ‘Britain’s Best Fashion Street’ in 2010.
Bath is also the ideal base for exploring the nearby, Exmoor National Park. It is a truly breath-taking area to explore, with visitors travelling around the world to experience its unique mix of landscapes, including high sea cliffs and rolling moorland. Property Prices
The London exodus to the countryside has resulted in a sharp spike in property values, with the average price rising by 3.74% over the past year. The current average value is £480,000 and the average price paid is £470,000, well above the national average.
Due to its high student population, renting is a more affordable prospect for many. A one-bedroom terraced house can be rented for £470 per month. At the other end of the scale a family-sized terraced home can be rented for £2600 per month.
Bath and North East Somerset Council have said that Bath and the surrounding areas will need more than 12,000 new homes by the year 2029. As a result, a comprehensive building programme has been launched with a raft of major projects commenced in 2018.
Bath features some lovely period Georgian terraces. There is something for everyone’s taste and budget, from studio flats to multimillion-pound luxury homes. The many new building developments in and around the city offer a huge selection of styles.
Popular neighbourhoods include Royal Crescent, The Circus and Lansdowne. For something a little more rural, look to the villages of Batheaston and Combe Down.
For students, Oldfield Park is a good area offering plenty of rental accommodation near to the universities. Some great bargains can be found in 40s-60s housing estates such as Southdown.
