Why Move to Bicester?
The historic town of Bicester town is one of the fastest growing towns in Oxfordshire. Its rapid development is attributed to its proximity to junction 9 of the M40 motorway linking it to London, Birmingham, Banbury and Oxford, among others. The two train stations of Bicester North and Bicester Village offer fantastic rail connections, an additional bonus.
As the town continues to expand, significant building developments are ongoing, including the building of 13,000 new homes. Ambitious Council plans to make Bicester a “Garden City” are also attributing to this enormous growth spirit making Bicester a desirable option for commuters.
Bicester’s history goes back to Saxon times, and later the Romans settled and built several roads and a fortress in nearby Alchester. Bicester was first mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.
Another aspect of Bicester’s charm is in its attractive town centre where you will discover several independent stores, café’s and bars in quirky period properties. Thatched homes and pretty little cottages dot the town, and there are some beautiful examples of 16th-century architecture. All this combined with a warm and caring community certainly makes Bicester a desirable location in which to set up home.
Things to do in Bicester
Bicester is best known for its modern “Bicester Village” shopping outlet. Offering up to 100 stores selling international and British luxury goods such as Ralph Lauren, New Balance, Wedgwood, and Hugo Boss.
Another of its well-known visitor attractions is “Garth Park” which hosts outdoor events throughout the summer including a Jazz Festival attended by thousands.
The historic town is ideally located as a base for exploring the stunning North Oxfordshire countryside. The picturesque Oxfordshire Cotswolds are within arms reach here– offering some of the most stunning scenery in the South East.
Classic car enthusiasts will love the Bicester Heritage Centre; it’s literally like stepping back in time. Set on the site of the famous 1920s RAF Bomber Station just a few miles from the M40 it gives visitors a chance to get into the workshops and up close to the latest vehicle restoration projects.
In addition, it has a program of events throughout the year including the popular Classic Car meeting where hundreds of vintage vehicles parade around the site.

Bicester offers access to some excellent schools:
For primaries: Chesterton CofE, Bure Park, King’s Meadow, Bardwell and St Mary’s Catholic are all “good”, says Ofsted.
Good rated Ofsted secondaries include; Bicester Community Secondary and Sixth form and The Cooper School.
The new Kingsmere development (south of Bicester) is due to create a two-form primary school and a secondary school soon.
For private education, the Bruern Abbey School is a special, independently funded junior school for boys. It is the only preparatory school in the country to have as its main purpose the tuition of boys with learning difficulties for Common Entrance and other entrance examinations to mainstream independent senior schools.
Property Prices in Bicester
As far as property goes, Bicester offers a varied choice of styles and the option of town-centre living, new builds or period homes. The old centre around Church Street has some pleasant terraces and townhouses, along with some thatched cottages and decent Victorian terraces.
Detached homes are selling for £300,000-£900,000. Semis are £225,000-£325,000; terraced houses and cottages are around £175,000-£300,000.
If you intend to rent, costs for a one-bed home will be between £620-£750pcm and a three-bed, £1,000-£1,200pcm.
