With a population of approximately 22,000 the town of Clevedon is located in a pretty area, on the Severn Estuary in North Somerset.
Nestled between a group of small hills, some of which are deemed Sites of Special Scientific Interest. The town name comes from Old English, cleve meaning “cleave” or “cleft” and don meaning “hill.
Once an agricultural village, it became popular in the mid 1800’s as a Victorian seaside resort. Today there are still plenty of reminders of these bye gone days with buildings from this era, a Grade I listed Victorian pier, bandstand and seafront ornamental gardens.
The Triangle is the centre of the town and where you will find the main shopping area along with Queen’s Square where a host of high street named shops and bars are found.
Queen’s Square is also the focal point for the town’s annual festivals whilst a General Market is held here every Thursday with a Farmers’ Market on the last Saturday of each month.
Hill Road offers a selection of unique, locally owned shops just a 10-minute walk from the Pier, while The Triangle, centred on a Victorian clock tower in the centre of Clevedon, offers well known chain stores and supermarkets.
Good transport links mean this coastal town’s popularity is assured. Immediate access to the M5 motorway and 13 miles from Bristol City Centre and 11 miles from the coastal resort of Weston-Super-Mare, Clevedon provides an excellent commuter base for residents.
Ideal for family living or retirement, the town is bordered by some of the most beautiful countryside in Somerset. Many of the county’s towns are catching the eye of Londoners keen to swap the metropolis for an equally inspiring and fulfilling life in the South West.
Schools & Education
Finding a suitable school for your child can be a mine field so its good to know that Clevedon has some great schools to choose from across the town.
There are six primary schools of which: Mary Elton, All Saints CofE, St Nicholas’ Chantry CofE and St John the Evangelist CofE are all “good”, says Ofsted.
The only Secondary in the town is Clevedon School. It is a large comprehensive school serving the whole town and the surrounding rural areas. It is well attended and has been rated as “outstanding” by Ofsted.
The closest university is the University Centre Somerset. Part of Bridgwater & Taunton College, it works in partnership with Plymouth University, Oxford Brookes University, University of the West of England, and the Open University. The choice of courses is huge, and it is highly regarded.

Things to do in Clevedon
Knowing you have a massive choice of things to do when you have time is a wonderful thing and Clevedon provides much in the way of entertainment.
Walton Castle is a 17th-century fort located on Caste Hill that overlooks the Walton St Mary area. The castle is so picturesque it is hired regularly for weddings and other special occasions.
Curzon Cinema is the oldest continuously operated purpose-built cinema in the country and shows all the latest movies.
Clevedon Court, owned by the National Trust, is one of only a few remaining 14th century manor houses in England. The house and gardens are well worth a visit.
Clevedon Pier according to the poet John Betjeman, is “The most beautiful pier in England” and was designated a Grade I listed building in 2001. Built in the Victorian era to receive accommodate for steamer passengers from Devon and Wales. It now makes the ideal place to enjoy a long walk and take in the outstanding views of the Severn Estuary.
The sand and pebble beach of Clevedon Bay has attracted holidaymakers for many years. When the tide recedes, it leaves a marine lake which is perfect for the little ones to enjoy rock pooling.

Clevedon has a lot to offer buyers of all ages.
The central area has some grand Georgian homes and there are some pretty Victorian villas facing the promenade (which are very sought after).
