Haverhill is a market town and civil parish in the county of Suffolk, next to the borders of Essex and Cambridgeshire and lies approximately 47 miles from London. Haverhill has excellent road links to the M11 and A14 and is a half an hour drive from Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge and Stansted Airport.

Haverhill has been a market town for nearly 950 years. Known in the late 19th century for its textile industry, although this industry goes back much further to the 1660’s, where the town was documented as having a “great textile trade”. In 1856 D. Gurteen & Sons built a factory housing 32 power looms driven by steam. This business expanded quickly and drew many people searching for employment into the area. The town almost doubled in size and a new town was built to house the influx of workers.

Haverhill today has many thriving clubs and a number of societies, which cover a vast range of interests. Most sports are represented and there are numerous other activities such as dance, music and art. There is also a superb leisure centre, an arts centre, which acts as a cinema and theatre, a bowling alley and nightclub. The shopping facilities are excellent with a partly pedestrianised town centre providing a good range of shops and a local weekly market.
