Why Move to Irvine
Located 25 miles south of Glasgow, Irvine was made a Royal Burgh in 1372 and is now a busy town with important historical and maritime connections. It is an area bursting with local produce; strawberries, fresh seafood, and the famed Ayrshire ‘tatti’ (a hybrid of a potato cake and a scone). It is an industrial town and port and was once Glasgow’s main port until the development of the Clyde in the 18th-century.
Robert Burns lived in Irvine in 1781 to learn the flax-dressing trade and after whom two streets in the town are named: Burns Street and Burns Crescent.
In 1966 Irvine was the last of five ‘New Towns’ to be designated in Scotland. Although it is seen as an industrial location it has some very beautiful areas within its boundaries. Sitting in an attractive position which overlooks Irvine Bay on the Firth of Clyde.
The A78 from Irvine to Kilmarnock gives easy access to the recently refurbished A77, M77 motorway link and all main arterial routes. This provides easy access for commuters with links also leading in a Southerly direction towards Ayr, Girvan, the Ayrshire coast, and in a Northerly direction toward Glasgow.
Much economic regeneration has taken place in the town over the past few years with several major development projects including the redevelopment of Irvine Harbour, creating a residential area with the atmosphere of a Scottish village.
Irvine Bay has long sweeping sandy beaches, woodland walks, and beautiful countryside views. Plus, the town forms part of the National Cycle Network. The nearby Eglintgon Country Park boasts miles upon miles of paths and bridleways, perfect for pleasant walks, horse rides or cycles. So, residents have access to lots of outdoor activities all year round.
The busy town centre is home to a good range of shops both chain stores and independents. Whilst the modern Rivergate Shopping Centre, the largest in Ayrshire has even more choice plus lots of places to eat, drink and relax.

Schools & Education

Scotland has a long history of universal public education and like Ofsted, standards are assessed by Education Scotland, the Scottish Governments education watchdog.
Irvine has several good primaries and secondary schools to choose from with 11 state primaries within two miles of the town. Children filter into three secondaries (or High Schools), Greenwood Academy, Irvine Royal Academy and Kilwinning Academy.
Further Education is available at several good colleges. Ayr College has several campuses and provides a full range of courses including HND, HNC, Full Time and Part Time as well as evening courses.
Things to do in Irvine
A generous amount of open amenity space and lots of open countryside close by make Irvine the perfect place to enjoy time outside.
Eglinton Country Park is in the grounds of the old Eglinton Castle estate. The location gives you the space and freedom to enjoy a wide range of pursuits – tranquil country walks, play and picnic areas, cycling, horse riding, fishing on the Lochside or simply watching the wildlife world go by.
Scotland has for many centuries been a seafaring nation. Nowhere is this heritage more apparent than at the Scottish Maritime Museum. Scattered along the south shore of the River Irvine are the various parts of the museum.
It is based in the vast brick-built steel-framed Linthouse Engine Shop. This houses the museum reception and shop, together with a range of indoor exhibits: plus, large numbers of the engines from which it gets its name.
Irvine has several quality links golf courses, perfect for a couple of invigorating rounds. Dundonald Links, Gailes, Western Gailes, and Irvine Bogside are just a few of the courses in the area you can visit.
In the picturesque setting of Irvine Harbour, the Harbour Arts Centre provides a vibrant programme of activities throughout the year: live music, comedy, theatre, and exhibitions.
Dundonald Castle is situated on a hill overlooking the village of Dundonald, between Kilmarnock and Troon in South Ayrshire. Dundonald Castle is a fortified tower house built for Robert II on his accession to the throne of Scotland in 1371 and it was used as a royal residence by Robert II and his son Robert III and an interesting place to wander.

From newbuild to rustic rural or coastal, Irvine certainly offers buyers a whole lot of choice and some fantastic value for money with an average price for a home being just £134,000.
