Kings Lynn is a seaport and a market town. It forms part of the county of Norfolk on the East coast of England. It lies on the banks of the River Great Ouse. It was once a very important port. In the 12th Century, the town was originally named Bishops Lynn and was part of the manor of the Bishop of Norwich. In 1538 when Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries, the town became royal property hence the change of name to Kings Lynn.
Today the town is a thriving busy place. With a good shopping centre, a range of restaurants, bars and cafes, galleries and museums. In 2005 a multimillion pound regeneration plan was put into action to update and modernise the whole town.
