Newton Abbot is a market town and civil parish in the Teignbridge District of Devon.
Sitting at the head of the Teign estuary around 12 miles south of Exeter, Newton Abbot has been a market town since 1220 AD. The name springs from the fact it was a New Town established by the Abbots of Torre Abbey.

Coombeshead Academy is a comprehensive trust school and a specialist media and arts college. The school educates around 1,442 pupils, aged 11 to 18.
Newton Abbot College is also doubles as a comprehensive school. It is a specialist Technology College and educates around 1,200 pupils, aged 11 to 18. Ofsted rated the college as “good” following its last inspection in May 2018.
South Devon UTC is a university technical college. It was established on 1 September 2015 and educates pupils aged between 14 and 19. Students work towards GCSEs and A-levels as well as technical qualifications in engineering and science.

Things to do in Newton Abbot
Newton Abbot is known for its weekly markets; The Indoor Market and Food Halls take place Monday to Saturday, The Outdoor Market; Wednesday and Saturday, and the Produce Market; every Friday.
There is also a range of fun festivals to attend during the year. The historic Cheese and Onion Fayre is held annually, in honour of Saint Leonard; it was originally in November but is now celebrated at the beginning of September. Another popular event is “Summer Nights”. A three-night festival in honour of street food, featuring locally produced dishes and world cuisine.
If you like the occasional flutter. Newton Abbot Racecourse is one of the country’s leading summer jumps racecourses and each year plays host to 19 horseracing fixtures. The course also supports a calendar of events such as antique fairs and car boot sales.
