Why Move to Oxford?
Classed as a University City, Oxford has a population of around 160,000. The city is conveniently places, almost central between the major surrounding cities: 51 miles from London, 57 miles from Birmingham and 30 miles from Reading.

Working in Oxford
If you are moving to Oxford to secure employment, the city and its surrounding area offers plenty of job opportunities. Unemployment figures are low currently at 3.7%, which is much lower than the national average of 6.0%.
Home to around 4,500 businesses, some of the major employers include BMW, Newsquest (Oxfordshire) Ltd, Oxford Bus Company, Oxford Radcliffe Hospital NHS Trust and of course, the University of Oxford.

Oxfordshire is one of Europe’s leading centres of enterprise, innovation and scientific knowledge. There is a range of local science parks, including the Oxford Science Park – home to over 60 science and technology-based companies.
Travel Connections
Connections in Oxford are excellent; the Oxford ring road surrounds the city and consists of the A34 to the west, the A40 north and north-east and the A4142/A423 to the east.
The city has three main train stations: Oxford, Radley and Culham. Trains run to London Marylebone, High Wycombe, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge. London Heathrow Airport is 38 miles by car.
Schools & Education
Among many reasons, Oxford is a famous city to relocate to for its education provision. Simply put, across the board from nursery to university, the city is awash with excellent schools, comprising of around 32 primaries which filter into six secondary schools.
St Philip & St James is a much-admired State primary and received favourable results following its last Ofsted inspection.
Top among the State options for secondaries is Cherwell Secondary, which regularly features among the best in the country and was awarded a rating of “outstanding” by Ofsted.
In the fee paying market, there are plenty of options, including; Magdalen College School (boys until 6th form when it becomes co-ed), Dragon School (co-ed prep), Summer Fields (boys’ prep), Teddies (St Edward’s) and ‘The High’ (Oxford High School for Girls). All are of good standing.
There are two universities in Oxford, the University of Oxford and Oxford Brookes University, as well as the specialist further and higher education institution Ruskin College which is an Affiliate of the University of Oxford. The Islamic Azad University also has a campus near Oxford.
Oxford University is known throughout the world for its excellence. Dating back as early as 1096, it makes it the oldest university in the English-speaking world.
Property Prices in Oxford
Homes in the city are by no means cheap but there are definitely savings to be made when compared to purchasing or renting an apartment in central London.
The historical architecture, which is present throughout the city, means that there are some beautiful homes dotted all over Oxford. From canal-side living in the city’s new-build developments to the Victorian terraces of Jericho and large detached houses of North Oxford, you will find there is a multitude of options to meet everyone’s housing needs.
Within a one-mile radius of the city, there are currently 822 homes for sale. Taken as an average, you will pay around £776,000 for a detached property, £472,000 for a semi, £452,000 for a terraced home and £319,000 for a one-bedroom flat – Stats as per Zoopla December 2019.
