    Our removals service

White and Company runs regular removal services to various towns and cities in New Zealand, including Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Wellington, Queenstown and many more.

Our extensive fleet of vehicles, specialist local knowledge and experienced staff make us the standout choice for all removals to New Zealand.

    How does it work?

We offer a full or part load removals service. This includes either full load consignments that take your belongings direct from point A to B, or part loads that are delivered shortly after your arrival.

Upon arrival at your local depot, all effects are transferred to the export warehouse to await loading into a 20ft or 40ft container.

The container is booked with the shipping line onto the first available vessel destined to the closest port of entry to your final destination.

If you are moving with fewer items or are staggering your move to New Zealand you may want to opt for a part load service.

The service is completely the same but we will combine several customers’ loads onto one high-capacity truck to save time and reduce transport costs.

    How is the cost calculated?

We can arrange a free no obligation home survey and quotation, carried out by one of our qualified surveyors. They will answer any questions you have and offer advice where necessary.

The survey will determine the volume of effects you will be shipping. The total cost of shipment is based on the space your effects will take up in our vehicles.

    Export Packing & Wrapping Service

When the client has accepted the quoted price and a move date has been secured, the vehicle and removal team will arrive at residence.

The removal team will proceed to export pack and wrap all items being transported in special breathable bubble wrap.

Special made-to-measure wooden creates can also be used for difficult to move or fragile items.

    Customs Clearance

Our dedicated team in New Zealand will ensure all the relevant paperwork and customs clearance is processed correctly. They will arrange the unloading and unpacking of your household goods.

    Depot Locations

White & Company offers secure containerised storage facilities via its own depots. We have 19 secure units dotted throughout the UK and our partners in New Zealand can also offer storage facilities.

All our warehouses are clean, dry, secure and accredited to European Standard BS EN 14873.

    International Recognition

We are founder members of the British Association of Removers – the voice of the UK removals industry in the UK.

As such we are responsible not only for meeting the highest sets of standards but listening to our customers on how we can continue to improve our performance.

In addition to this we are also affiliate members of the FIDI & OMNI international relocation network and have industry partners all over the world.

Marine insurance is a key consideration when shipping overseas. We recommend you consider protecting your valuable personal possessions while in transit or storage with our ‘All Risk’ Marine Standard Liability cover.

    Preparing for Your Move

Once you’ve decided to move to New Zealand you can look forward to beautiful green rolling landscapes of mountains and fjards, excellent job prospects and a more relaxed way of life.

The process of moving is stressful at the best of time, let alone moving to the other side of the world.

There are some differences as to how the move is handled domestically which you need to prepare for, including navigating local laws and customs.

By choosing a reliable removals company like White & Company you are not only getting a first-class removals service but access to the knowledge and skills of an experienced international relocator.

White & Company carry out around 20 moves to and from New Zealand and other destinations all over the world every month.

No matter what challenges you face you can rest assured that we have likely encountered and overcome them before. Whether you are moving to a small city apartment or a huge chateau in the countryside we’re equipped to get the job done and be home in time for tea.

Before we jump on board here are some useful pre-planning tips to consider before you take the plunge and move to New Zealand:

    • Get multiple quotes from different removals companies — It pays to shop around. Getting multiple quotes gives you the opportunity to ask questions about the whole process and by meeting with one of the company’s representatives.
    • Visit New Zealand before you make your decision to relocate — visit as many times as you can and explore different neighbourhoods to find out which one will work best for you, including planning for any other practical considerations such as work and school.
    • Rent before you buy — Once you have identified the areas you want to live in it’s a good idea to rent a property first before committing to a long-term purchase. That way you can source out the best areas for you and your family.
    • Research and secure jobs BEFORE you go — You may be fortunate enough to have secured work through an existing employer. If not, you will need to search for an employer who can ‘sponsor’ you and your family for a working visa.
    • Consider if public healthcare will suffice – For your family or whether you’ll need private cover instead.

Fee reductions are available for part load services where your household belongings are shipped on separate consignments that arrive at different times.

Your household goods will be vetted by customs and given clearance for removal.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) is the government body in New Zealand tasked with deciding whether or not to physically examine your goods.

You will be asked to declare what items you have prior to your departure and fill out an inventory specifying what you are taking with you and who packed what.

As with all countries there are certain prohibited items which you will need to check before your packing gets underway.

Used household goods and personal effects including furniture and appliances are GST and duty-free provided the goods are for your own personal use and will not be sold, lent, given as gifts or exchanged. If fumigation of shipment is deemed necessary, charges for this service will be applied.

For a full list of items you will need to declare see the relevant government website.

The main things they are looking for is the presence of soil, dirt and other contaminants that could be of potential harm to their unique ecosystem.

Our dedicated team will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and ensure all the relevant paperwork and customs clearance is processed correctly at point of entry.

If you want to live in New Zealand, you will need to obtain a relevant visa. There is a range of visa options depending on whether you want to live and work, study, invest or simply visit.

Choosing the best option for your circumstances will likely depend on how long you want to stay, if there is a shortage of your skills in New Zealand and if you are coming with a partner or family.

There are also work-stream permanent residence visas offered to those who have skills that New Zealand values or are in short supply of.

To discover which visa suits your personal situation visit the NZ government website.

We use a modern range of environmentally friendly, purpose-made packing materials and can pack everything for you prior to your move.

Double-thickness cartons are used to wrap china and glassware. We use bubble blanket to wrap furniture, and made-to-measure crates for transporting specialist care items such as antiques.

How long the removals process takes will depend on the location you are moving from and what type of delivery method you opt for – shipping or freight.

The average time for items to reach New Zealand visa shipping is usually 14 weeks with additional time to allow for customs and clearance processes to be followed.

Part load services where small amounts of your belongings are delivered at different intervals will take longer.

Our surveyors will be able to advise you beforehand on your best course of action and clear up any questions you may have.

We know a key consideration for my expats making the move to new Zealand is how they can take their pets with them, And although removals companies are not allowed to handle such matters for you there area a wide choice of pet exporters who will look after all the arrangements.

In New Zealand pet importation rules are heavily regulated and any breach of the rules is taken very seriously.

You can bring your cat or dog (and other animals), but they must meet specific health standards. These standards are subject to change depending on the country your pet is coming from.

You will need to ensure your pet:

Has a pet passport and an import permit
Is in good health to travel and has been microchipped (dogs and cats)

Dogs and cats being imported to New Zealand from the UK need to have a primary rabies vaccination at least 6 months before they fly. This is followed by a rabies blood sample at least three months before they fly.

The rabies vaccination does need to be within 12 months of the flight date.
Dogs and cats serve a period of quarantine, usually around 10 days in either Auckland or Christchurch.
