Why Move to Winsford
Having developed around the salt mining industry during the early to middle 1800’s, Winsford has grown, developed and now flourishes as a busy town, home to around 40,000.
Located in the heart of rural Cheshire, the River Weaver flows near to the town which also contributed to the expansion of Winsford. It was modified into a canal allowing salt to be conveyed northwards to the Port of Runcorn on the River Mersey.
Winsford is split into three neighbourhoods: Over, sits on the western side of the River Weaver, Wharton on the eastern side, and Swanlow and Dene.
A quiet place for its residents to retreat to as many commute to busier towns in the area such as Northwich, Middlewich, Nantwich and Chester. Some travel further afield by rail to work in the large cities of Liverpool 40 mins and Birmingham 1 hour.
The Winsford Flashes (or lakes) are the town’s most notable geographical feature. Three of them lay along the course of the river Weaver and offer both sanctuary to wildlife and waterfowl and a tranquil place to spend time. The largest lake is primarily used for water sports and fishing.
There are plenty of shops serving the community with a post office, corner shops, and several large supermarkets.
Winsford Cross Shopping Centre is undercover so a great place to browse or sit back and enjoy a coffee any time of the year. The local market is a regular occurrence held on a Monday, Thursday, and Saturday.
For an all-round day of retail therapy, head to the nearby shopping meccas of the Trafford Centre and Cheshire Oaks.
Winsford is one of those towns that has it all. Small enough to provide a close-knit community alongside everything you require on a day-to-day basis, but equally, not too far away from rolling countryside contrasting with cosmopolitan cities.
Schools & Education
Whilst it is important to find the perfect location when making the huge decision to relocate, there are also other significant factors to consider as well.
The all-important question for those who have children is what are the schools like in the area? Thankfully, the education provision in Winsford is of a very high standard.
All schools in Winsford have signed up to the Winsford Education Partnership. The purpose of the partnership seeks to raise aspirations and achievement, and a culture of lifelong learning by enhancing provision and creating inspirational opportunities for all.
All but two schools from primary to college level have been rated as either being “good” or “outstanding” by Ofsted.
16–18-year-olds can attend either The Winsford Academy Sixth Form or Mid Cheshire College.
The latter, as well as offering a huge choice of vocational courses also caters for Foundation Degree students. Courses are accredited by the University of Chester and Manchester Metropolitan University. Subjects included Business, Fashion, ICT, Music Technology and Graphic Design.
